VEX IQ Competition Robotics | Program overview

The program is built for upper-primary students. It sparks interest in STEM and gives a hands-on place to learn basic robot building and coding through fun activities. Light competition challenges let students try teamwork and match play without the pressure of a full high-school season.

Teaching is guided and practical. Students solve problems with their hands, try ideas, and apply STEM knowledge to real tasks, which sets up later robotics learning.

What students learn

  • Learn how competition robots are designed
  • Write simple autonomous programs
  • Use data to improve a robot
  • Build match-day confidence
  • Practice teamwork and leadership

Program highlights

Scrimmages give real match experience. Engineering notebooks build a habit of recording work. Team projects strengthen collaboration. Camel hosts or co-hosts the cups, so students can compete locally.

Competitions and showcase opportunities

  • Islands Cup, Ying Lai Cup, Lee Wai Lee Cup, Hong Kong Cup
  • Hong Kong Junior Engineering Challenge (Hong Kong qualifying) preliminary
  • Singapore VEX Invitational (strong partner-school teams)

Skills for what comes next

Simple, game-like tasks — building a chassis, stacking cubes, and similar challenges — teach basic mechanics and coding. Students practice problem solving and logical thinking in a low-pressure setting.

Hong Kong primary students already carry a heavy academic load. This program is a chance to step off the textbook page and use knowledge in a real setting. Group work teaches communication and shared roles. The focus is inspiration: an early interest in technology that later STEM courses can build on.

Hong Kong and Macau delegation, organized exclusively by Camel

Camel has more than three years of experience planning large STEAM competitions and has independently hosted technology events with more than 300 participants in a single day. The 2025 Singapore IDE Series – VEX Invitational was held at the F1 Pit Building, with more than 29 teams and nearly 200 athletes from different countries and regions. Camel exclusively organizes the Hong Kong and Macau delegation. Only partner-school teams that perform well in local events are invited.

International exchange, school STEAM Day, and VEX GO

Beyond competitions, we bring overseas teams to Hong Kong so partner schools and students can share robotics and STEAM activities without traveling. We also have extensive experience running VEX GO courses and taster days. VEX GO interest classes can lead to local or overseas events. Below is a special VEX GO Mars Mission session we ran for the Scout Association.
